Before the “Vater und Sohn” (“Father and Son”) picture stories, Erich Ohser would occasionally draw himself in various styles – as is the case with most artists. From 1938 onwards, however – that is, after the “Vater und Sohn” picture stories – things become more interesting: Ohser, now under the name e. o. plauen, depicted himself as a comic character in cartoons and on entire comic pages, telling autofictional stories from his life. The lecture provides an insight into this relatively unknown visual material and traces Ohser’s narrative style and visual language in these illustrations.
