Comics as a Research Method

“Comic-based research” as an innovative method opens up new opportunities for the scholarly evaluation of comics. This discussion will outline the development of this approach, present examples from our students’ research practice, and examine how narrative continuity and multimodality unlock the methodological potential of comics. At the same time, limitations and areas for improvement will be discussed in order to offer added value to researchers and comic artists alike. Shriya Singh is a third-year student and Sora Wong is a graduate of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.
