Lecture in English by João Albergaria
I will begin with a brief introduction to myself and my career, and then explain how sketching has become the most important tool in my life as an architect. For me, sketching is both a great passion and the best way to express myself. It is also a method of interpreting the city and understanding the sociological environment – as the first step in the creative process.
I will explain why a 360-degree view has become so important in my compositions (it reflects a more global perspective on the world) and why observation is the crucial starting point. I will then describe my drawing process and methods, including where to start when faced with a highly complex urban scene. I will address the dilemma of deciding when a drawing is finished and introduce the idea of buildings as living objects.
Finally, I will highlight the social aspect of urban sketching, as sketching together creates opportunities to meet people and make friends worldwide. To conclude, I will open the floor for questions.
