Reading by Christian Schnalke

We’ve always suspected it: books are just like people. Christian Schnalke shows them to us as we’ve never seen them before: in their private lives. With a sure hand, he recounts the pitfalls of a book’s life. Books at the bar, books at the psychiatrist’s, books at the cinema, books on the beach – shy, curious, proud, or sometimes dead drunk.
Christian Schnalke presents the funniest and most profound of his cartoons about the secret life of books on screen and demonstrates their creation live on an iPad, from the initial idea through the (paper) sketch and the text work, right up to the final digital artwork. In doing so, he recounts fascinating and absurd tales about the boundary between word and image, and about everyday life as a screenwriter and novelist: when books don’t do what you expect of them, why they wanted to come along to Erlangen, and how he persuaded them to stay at home.
