Reading by Melanie Lüdtke
Paulina and her father Ed meet for a walk. Their relationship is complicated – marked by estrangement and unspoken conflicts. As a working-class child, Paulina struggles with the subtle forms of classism, prejudice and hierarchies that constantly call her identity into question. Set against the backdrop of this walk, Melanie Lüdtke tells a story in which Paulina’s father unexpectedly opens up and recounts his childhood in a care home, marked by violence and neglect. Their time together is interrupted by episodes from Paulina’s current life. “Hackenporsche” explores how one’s background and social class shape a person’s identity and how difficult it is to break free from them without losing oneself. Melanie Lüdtke reads from her graphic novel, nominated for the 2026 Max und Moritz Award.
