Poland 1943: A Jewish family from France is on a freight train bound for Auschwitz concentration camp. In desperation, the father throws one of his two children from the train into the snow, where it is found by a childless Polish woodcutter’s wife. Despite her poverty, she does everything she can to feed and raise the baby. His story brings out the best and worst in the people whose paths he crosses. The film by Oscar-winning director Michel Hazanavicius was screened in competition at the Cannes Film Festival in 2024.
