Hanna Wollmeiner in conversation with Anwar; in English
In her graphic novel “The Case”, Zehra Ömeroğlu exposes the absurd mechanisms of state censorship in Turkey. Together with the Egyptian-Sudanese artist Anwar, who lives in exile, she discusses why political cartoons are often the first target of authoritarian regimes and how humour can act as a means of resistance. From Zehra Ömeroğlu’s legal battle to the comic “Erdogan”: This panel discussion is a plea for artistic freedom and the courage to draw against the tide.
Unfortunately, Zehra Ömeroğlu had to cancel her appearance at short notice. We will be showing a short video message from her.
