Artist talk: Leela Corman

New York-based illustrator Leela Corman is still relatively unknown in Germany. Unfairly so! “Unterzakhn” (2012) tells the story of Jewish twins on the Lower East Side and offers a panorama of the early 20th century, ranging from destitution to Broadway, from pogroms to prostitution. With “Victory Parade” (2024), she has produced one of the most compelling Holocaust narratives of recent years, not least because she depicts its impact on the lives of ordinary people in New York’s working-class communities.
