Artist talk with Isabel Kreitz, Ully Arndt and Andreas C. Knigge; moderated by Brigitte Helbling

How does one make a living from drawing comics? Isabel Kreitz has been doing just that for over 30 years. Together with two companions, Ully Arndt (“Ottifanten”, “Der goldene Handschuh”) and the author and comic expert Andreas C. Knigge, she discusses the challenges and moments of joy that have shaped their paths. In 1989, Kreitz would have loved to have been part of a US comic “assembly line” in New York. This comic culture did not exist in Germany. Kreitz’s work took a different path, from comic strips to albums, graphic novels and children’s comics … She sees comic commissions from advertising clients as “applause for her passion projects”. The panel also wants to hear from the audience: What will “making a living from drawing comics” look like in 2026?
