Hannah is 28 and a freelance illustrator from Münster. For her, illustration is a bit like solving a puzzle: racking her brains, tinkering, failing, and drawing until an idea becomes the best possible visual solution. As part of the 2025 Comic Seminar, she further developed her Master’s thesis project: the concept for the sci-fi comic “Rust Bucket Ride to Babel”. In addition to the plot and character design, the work comprises 30 fully illustrated comic pages from the first chapter. The story centres on Beta, a clumsy interplanetary bus driver who is initially sacked, later crashes on a volcanic planet with a bus full of aliens, and ultimately has to mediate between them. The story combines humour, quirky characters and adventure with a utopian vision of coexistence despite radical differences. During the seminar, she produced sketches for a second chapter as well as further developments for the project. The collaboration was enormously enriching for her, not only artistically but also on a personal level, and has significantly reinforced her enthusiasm for comics.
