Andreas Gefe was born in 1966 in Küssnacht and studied at the Lucerne School of Art and Design from 1987 to 1993, where he graduated with a diploma in Visual Design and Illustration. He was one of the co-founders of Fumetto, the Swiss comics festival. Since 1993, he has worked as a freelance illustrator, comic artist and painter. His debut comic "Madame Lambert", created in collaboration with US crime writer Jerome Charyn, was published in 1997. He drew illustrations for Martin Suter's "Geri Weibel" stories in the NZZ from 1997 to 2002. 

His illustrations on social and political topics appear in almost all major Swiss newspapers and magazines. The versatile artist also designs posters and CD covers. In 2018, the Cartoonmuseum Basel dedicated a retrospective exhibition to his work. In 2020, "Familienalbum" was published, a collaboration with musician Trummer. That same year, Andreas Gefe received the Comic Grant of the German-speaking Swiss Cities for his new project with New York-based scriptwriter Julian Voloj – "IN NY" ´, published by Edition Moderne. Andreas Gefe lives in Zurich.
