From 1983 to 2015, Kim Schmidt wrote and illustrated the comic strip "Öde" for the Flensburg paper Moin Moin, which has been available since 2017 as the complete edition "Das war Öde" (Flying Kiwi Verlag) In 1996 his weekly cartoon series "Local Heroes" for the more than 20 daily newspapers published by Schleswig-Holsteinischer Zeitungsverlag (20 anthologies published by Flying Kiwi Verlag to date) followed. Kim Schmidt achieved a bestseller in 1998 with "Unser Schumi" (author: Lutz Mathesdorf, Carlsen), followed by "Störtebeker" (Carlsen, 2004) and the two-volume comic "Kleiner Thor" (Tokyopop 2007/2008, both written by Patrick Wirbeleit). Kim Schmidt is a regular illustrator of the series "Die drei ??? Kids" and has also published two comic volumes for the series, "Strandpiraten" (2014, author: Ulf Blanck) and "Diamantenraub" (2019, author: Boris Pfeiffer, all Kosmos Verlag). Kim Schmidt was honoured with the ICOM Independent Comic Award in 2006 for his three-volume "Comiczeichenkurs" (Carlsen, 2003-2010) and the website comiczeichenkurs.de. Together with Patrick Wirbeleit, he created the comic series "Gorm Grimm" about a time-travelling Viking for Kibitz. Kim Schmidt lives with his family in Dollerup near Flensburg.
