Christina Plaka
Christina Plaka is one of the first generation of German mangaka. Back in 2002, at the age of 19, she took part in the “Manga Talente” drawing competition at the Leipzig Book Fair, where she came second, which led to her signing with Carlsen Verlag. From 2003 onwards, her manga “Prussian Blue” appeared in Carlsen’s magazine Daisuki and soon afterwards as a paperback. In the same year, she passed her A-levels and began studying Japanese and Romance languages. From 2005, she continued the story of the school band from “Prussian Blue” under the new title “Yonen Buzz” with TOKYOPOP, thereby also tapping into the French and American markets. In 2009, she returned to Carlsen and published “Herrscher aller Welten”, the biographical one-shot “Kimi he – Worte an dich” and the sports manga “Go for it!”. From 2010 to 2012, she spent two years at Kyoto Seika University, where she also completed her master’s degree. In 2016, she founded “i am mangaka!”, the first traditional manga school in the German-speaking world and has since devoted herself increasingly to training the next generation of artists. She now primarily offers online courses under the “i am mangaka!” banner.
