Born in 1975, Kai Pfeiffer is a freelance artist based in Berlin. After finishing his studies at the Kunsthochschule Weißensee (Weißensee Academy of Art, Berlin) in 1999, he founded the collective Monogatari that significantly influenced the genre of comic reportage in Germany. Pfeiffer most notably published documentary comics, his comic essay on Chernobyl being published in Japan in the year 2012. Since 2009, he teaches at the Kunsthochschule Kassel (Academy of Arts, Kassel) and the Hochschule Hannover – University of Applied Sciences and Arts. Since 2011, he works with the Brussels-based comic artist Dominique Goblet. Their work Bei Gefallen auch mehr (“There’s More if You Like it”) was published in three languages: in 2014, in Flemish by Bries, in French by Actes Sud/Frémok, and finally in 2019 in German by avant-verlag. In this jointly narrated comic, the two different styles of the artists coalesce to form a unique imagery. Their most recently published work is titled Le jardin des candidats (Frémok 2024).
