Born in 1957 in Mülheim an der Ruhr; he initially studied art education and Protestant theology, and later communication design. Hendrik Dorgathen has created illustrations for various magazines and newspapers, including GEO, Die Zeit, SZ-Magazin and The New York Times, and has also collaborated on national and international animation and comic projects. He taught as a professor of comics and illustration at the Kassel Art Academy from 2003 to 2023. His own projects, such as the comic “Slow” and the sketchbook “Holodeck”, were published by Edition Moderne. In 1994, he received the Max und Moritz Prize as the best German-language comic artist.
