Reinhard Kleist

Reinhard Kleist (b. 1970) is one of Germany’s most renowned comic artists. Reinhard Kleist has published numerous comics, including works with publishers such as Egmont, Landpresse, Reprodukt, Edition 52, and Carlsen. In addition to his comic work, the Berlin-based artist has created illustrations for books and album covers. Reinhard Kleist has already received several awards for his comics, including the Max und Moritz Prize for “Cash – I see a darkness.” He also won the German Youth Literature Prize for “Der Boxer.” For “Der Traum von Olympia,” he received the 2015 LUCHS of the Year and the 2016 Gustav Heinemann Peace Prize. After publishing his comic biography “Nick Cave” in 2017, Reinhard Kleist received the Max und Moritz Prize as Best German-Language Artist (2018). With “Starman – The Ziggy Stardust Years,” he created his first graphic tribute to the legendary English musician David Bowie—to be followed by “Low,” about Bowie’s years in Berlin. In 2026, he will bring another icon to life with Lucky Luke in “The Grimm Brothers.”
