Carlsen presents: Roya Soraya – Wind in my headscarf

A striking portrait of cultural differences, loss and self-discovery: Roya Soraya grows up in Germany in an Iranian-German family – close to Persian culture, yet alien to it. From the feeling of standing between two worlds grows a longing to get to know Iran and her own roots. Together with her father, she travels through the country and, as a queer woman, experiences a time caught between fascination and fear, beauty and oppression – without realising that this is their last journey together. The exhibition accompanying the autobiographical graphic novel “Wind in meinem Kopftuch” offers a glimpse behind the pages: a travel diary and photographs recount the journey to the graphic novel, whilst sketches and studies provide insights into the drawing process.
