Charly P. is a petty criminal and self-proclaimed revolutionary in the Middle Franconian countryside. Following a botched drug deal, he comes under the scrutiny of the German domestic intelligence service, which forces him to act as an informant. The left-wing sympathiser scene of the 1980s is of great interest to the state security services, and an eccentric like Charly seems to be a suitable informant. Despite this new role, Charly continues to crave action, builds bombs – and then, something goes terribly wrong.

“Der Traum ist aus, Charly P.” is a dramatic story about family, idealism and betrayal. Erlangen-based artist Lisa Neun offers insights into the creative process behind her comic and highlights the diverse roles of a comic artist. With the help of visual aids, the atmosphere of the story is brought to life.
