A paintbrush becomes a dress, a folding rule becomes flamingo plumage and a handful of dice becomes a Dalmatian. In his famous Sunday Sketches, Christoph Niemann breathes new life into found objects with just a few added strokes. And he carries out this transformation outdoors too: he supplements his photographs and short videos of the world – of landmarks as well as seemingly mundane things – with minimal graphic gestures, so that stories unfold and comical, crazy, even unbelievable moments emerge.

From everyday observations, such as the hardships of a long-haul flight, the vagaries of the weather or family sleep patterns, he develops short narrative series that capture reality with dry humour. And which often speak straight from the heart.

The exhibition by the internationally sought-after artist Christoph Niemann, created in collaboration with the Kunstpalais, features many new works, wall pieces designed specifically for the Kunstpalais, and, for the first time, an innovative collaboration with a robot. Alongside Niemann’s iconic cover designs for The New Yorker, his highly personal travel sketches are also on display. And last but not least, visitors can get actively involved and become part of the art universe themselves through Niemann’s apps and a large interactive station.

At the heart of the exhibition lies Christoph Niemann’s view of the world – and how, through his artistic interventions, he repeatedly opens up unexpected perspectives on it. His diverse works invite you to see your own surroundings differently for a moment and to rediscover the astonishing in the everyday. And finally – there’s plenty to laugh about!
