Dominique Bertail
Dominique Bertail was born in Tours in 1972. He first studied fine arts at the Beaux-Arts in Rennes, followed by sculpture and painting at Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen (Scotland), before joining the comics workshop at the Beaux-Arts in Angoulême. Bertail is the artist behind the successful series "Ghost Money", a remarkable globe-spanning techno-thriller written by Thierry Smolderen. This success, however, should not overshadow his other works, such as "Omaha Beach", 6 June 1944, or his widely acclaimed contribution to the comics trilogy "Madeleine, Résistante", dedicated to the life of resistance fighter Madeleine Riffaud. Both projects were written by Jean-David Morvan. For the first volume of the series, Morvan, Bertail, and Madeleine Riffaud were awarded the Prix René Goscinny in 2022. The first volume of the trilogy was published in German translation by avant-verlag in 2022 under the title "Die entsicherte Rose". The second volume, "Das rote Federbett", followed in 2024, as did the third volume, "Nudeln mit Tomatensoße". A fourth volume, "Der Engel des Todes", is scheduled for publication in spring 2026.
