Deutsche Comicforschung

The scolarly compendium "Deutsche Comicforschung" (German Comics Research), edited by Eckart Sackmann, is the standard work on the history of comics in German-speaking countries. Since 2005, a new volume has been published annually, featuring individual essays by renowned comics scholars that present various aspects of visual storytelling from the Middle Ages to the modern era. A key principle of the series is maintaining a high proportion of illustrations. To date, 22 volumes have been published, comprising over 3,000 pages and approximately 9,000 illustrations.
