Although he is a superb comic artist, Franz Gerg has remained largely unknown in the scene. This may be because he draws almost exclusively advertising comics, but at an internationally competitive level.

Franz Gerg studied at the vocational school for graphic design and advertising in Munich. In 1983, he began working on “Max & Luzie”, an advertising comic for the Allianz insurance company. It tells the story of the children Max and Luzie, who traveled the world together with the eccentric Kieks. The comics were distributed to Allianz insurance agents, who used them for customer retention. “Max & Luzie” became a success, and the 16-page comic book reached a circulation of half a million in 1994, a figure surpassed only by “Asterix”. The series ran until the end of 2002.

Since the beginning of 2004, Franz Gerg has been part of the artistic team for the savings bank's advertising comic “KNAX”. Between 2004 and 2007, he also produced the “Eddie Erdmann” comic for the children's magazine Eddie, published by the prefabricated home manufacturer SchwörerHaus.

Currently, Kult Comics is publishing a edition of “Max & Luzie”.
