In 2016, the artist C.P. (Christian Paulus), born in 1972, normally working as an architekt, unintentionally created an artistic figure that still occupies him today: "Der Mann mit der roten Jacke". Three parts have been published so far. The fourth part, "Der Mann im Trichter" (90 pages, b/w), will be published for the first time at the Comic Salon Erlangen 2024 and is set in Leipzig after the fall of communism in the mid-1990s. Socialism had come to an end. In the decades before, young people in particular had left the city and fled to the West. Hopelessness at every turn. The losers of these political upheavals gather around the tables of run-down pubs, drinking cheap beer and smoking Karo or F6. But the housing market is being privatised and the developers' cranes are beginning to turn imperceptibly faster. The floodlights of the countless construction sites light up the night. The dilapidated walls are being replastered, the sulphurous yellow-brown colour giving way to a hard alpine white. The Ladas, Skodas and Trabants are slowly disappearing from the streets. It will take some time, but the billboards are already announcing it: LEIPZIG IS COMING.
