Steven Appleby

Steven Appleby (*1956) is a UK-based cartoonist and illustrator who draws comics with an idiosyncratic line and clever humour. He has published over 20 books and his work has been exhibited widely. His comic "Captain J. Star" won the Max and Moritz Award, and he won it again in 2022 for the partly autobiographical comic "Dragman" (2020) about the trans superhero Dolly Marie. In the UK, he has published comic strips in The Guardian, The Times, The Observer and The Sunday Telegraph, among others, since 1984. In Germany he has published in Die Zeit and Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. He is married with two sons and three stepsons.
