The German-language Max and Moritz Award Winners 2022

Every two years, the city of Erlangen presents the Max and Moritz Award. The most prestigious prize for comic artists in the German-speaking world was awarded on 17 June 2022 at the Max und Moritz Gala as part of the 20th International Comic Salon Erlangen. Since 2014, the award has been complemented by a biennial travelling exhibition: The Best German Comics presents the current German-language Max und Moritz Award winners.

Artefacts from the studios of the comic artists and photos of their workplaces provide an insight into their individual working methods and worlds of inspiration; original drawings and sketches document the wide range of the German-language comic scene and the diversity of topics. Straightforward black-and-white drawings meet brightly coloured paintings and classic comic panels encounter new pictorial forms. It becomes socio-critical and serious, but also cheerful, funny and ironic. Once again, German comic art presents itself as perceptive, on the pulse of the times and extremely entertaining.

The exhibition will feature works by Birgit Weyhe (Best German-language Comic Artist), Aisha Franz (Best German-language Comic), Jospehine Mark (Best Comic for Children), Jeff Chi (Best German-language Comic Debut), Lina Ehrentraut (Best German-language Comic Debut), Daniela Heller (Best German-language Comic Debut), Daniela Schreiter (Audience Award) as well as the 9th Art publications by Alexander Braun (Special Jury Award).
