Melanie Garanin lives near Berlin with her family, two greyhounds, a cat, two ponies, and a knight's steed. Born in 1972, she studied animation in Potsdam-Babelsberg and has illustrated numerous children's and young adult books for many different publishers. Her first graphic novel, "Nils. Von Tod und Wut.Und von Mut“, was published by Carlsen Comics in 2020. In 2022, she published "Völlig meschugge?!," a comic with Andreas Steinhöfel. Her most recent comic, "Mein Freund Rilke," was published in 2025. She has contributed to the anthologies "The Future is…" (Carlsen Comics) and "Stell dir vor!" (avant-verlag) and illustrates various other projects.
